A sanitary meter must measure accurately and clean reliably. Specify the process connection, wetted materials and cleaning cycle together so the instrument fits the complete hygienic system.
Choose hygienic wetted materials
316L stainless steel is common for product-contact parts. Confirm surface finish, elastomer compatibility and corrosion resistance for the product and cleaning chemicals. Ask for material certificates when the project requires traceability.
Match the process connection
Tri-Clamp connections are widely used for hygienic lines, while other sanitary flange standards may be required by the plant. Confirm line size, face-to-face length, gasket type and drainability before approving the drawing.
Check CIP, SIP and temperature limits
Provide normal process temperature as well as CIP and SIP temperature, pressure and chemical details. Verify the meter, seals and transmitter enclosure are rated for the full cleaning cycle, not only normal production.
Specify accuracy for dosing and batching
For recipe batching and ingredient dosing, define the normal flow range, minimum batch size and required repeatability. Review zero stability, low-flow performance and the calibration method at the actual operating conditions.
Request a complete hygienic document package
Useful documents include a datasheet, dimensional drawing, wiring diagram, calibration report, material certificates, cleaning limits, warranty and inspection records. Clear documents reduce approval delays during FAT and commissioning.
